This is a ‘full-scribe’ or ‘swedish cope’ style log home that does not require caulk or ‘chinking’ between the log courses due to the tight fit of the logs. The project was completed in the summer of 2004 and was a great opportunity to employ several alternative building techniques such as using insulated concrete forms (complimentary to the hydronic radiant heat) and recycled old growth redwood. This particular log ‘shell’ was destined to be a home in Bend, Oregon until it was purchased and moved to ‘long valley log works’ in 2002. Working around the existing window and door openings it was re-designed to fit on a parcel at the west end of Donner Lake. Considerable time and thought was put into situating the home onto the existing landscape and adding windows and rooms to take advantage of the limited southern exposure characteristic of the area.
